Charleston!!

Last weekend we went down to Charleston to spend the weekend with Chip, Sara and Tyler. We left early on Friday and arrived in time for dinner, which was on the table and ready for us to eat! On Saturday, we went to Charles Towne Landing, the original site of Charleston, the city. It's like a nature preserve, with bears, a puma, bison and of course, alligators. We were lucky enough to see all of the animals plus tons of big turtles and we took a nice walk through the woods. After our nature walk, we had lunch and then went home to play on the slip and slide! (Well Tyler played and Jackson napped.) Chip and Sara got a babysitter, so we were able to go out and be adults for the night! We went out for wings and then to a neighborhood wine tasting. It was heavenly and made the weekend perfect!

We try not to watch too much television around here. That's a big step for me, because I'm a certified TV junkie, especially daytime TV. It used to be on all day when Jackson was an infant, but these days, there is very little TV watching going on, because once it's turned on, Jackson tunes out. He's addicted to television, and will drop whatever he's doing to watch. Of course, he'll only watch for a few minutes and then he gets bored and moves on, but inevitably, he gets drawn back into the tube.

I do let him watch one show a day, Super Why. It's an "educational" show about reading and problem solving and I don't feel too bad about letting him watch it. Until I look over and see the boy like this:

When he zones out like this, I have to turn it off because there's nothing I can do to get his attention. And I think it might be bad for his eyes.

Happy Birthday, AGAIN!!

Since Sean's family couldn't be with us for Jackson's birthday party here, they decided to throw him another party last weekend. Since we have started the "draw out your birthday for as long as you can" tradition with Jackson, this worked out perfectly. Auntie T drove out from Atlanta to represent the Pettapiece's and the only thing missing was the presence of Aunt Sheree, whom we missed. Everyone else made it to celebrate the first year of the boy's life. And since Aunt Sheree wasn't able to make it, you know what that means... Another party!!

Who Needs a Blanket?

We've tried to get Jackson attached to something, like a blanket or a stuffed animal, but nothing has really stuck. Until now. Christina and Kevin gave him a set of plastic golf clubs for his birthday, and since last Sunday, he hasn't gone anywhere without one of them. The driver is in the car for trips, the putter is in the tub for bathtime and the pitching wedge is his everyday, around the house club. We think it's pretty hilarious!

Jackson gets a bath every night and he loves it. My friend Anita sent him a really cool set of bathtoys for his birthday. They are tools that fill up with water and spray and of course, they taste delicious! We love them-thank you, Anita!!

First Haircut!!

Jackson's hair was getting pretty long, especially in the back. Let's be honest. The boy had a mullet. Our good friends Brandon and Herbie own a salon and offered up a first cut, so we jumped on it. Jackson goes there with me when I get my hair cut, and we hang out with Herbie and Brandon, so he was comfortable and actually took it much better than we expected. No tears and we even got a smile here and there. Most importantly, Jackson's haircut is perfect!
